The above advertisement for recruits for Col. Hecker's Regiment Regiment appeared in Der Highland (Illinois) Bote (newspaper) on August 8, 1862. It was placed by Emil Frey a native of Switzerland and friend of Colonel Hecker. Frey became captain of Company H, 82nd Illinois Infantry. He was captured on July 1, 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg and held prisoner until exchanged late in the war. He returned to Switzerland after the war and later became that country's president.
